The ATEY Battalion carries out missions not only in the hottest sectors of eastern Ukraine, but also at strategically important sites across the country. One of these missions is ensuring the security of the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone and protecting Ukraine’s northern border.
After the full-scale invasion, the importance of this territory changed significantly. What was once viewed mainly as an environmental control zone has now become a critically important part of the country’s defense system. Control over this area means control over approaches to the capital, key logistics routes, and strategic infrastructure.
Battalion units conduct constant patrols, surveillance, and territorial control. Their missions include identifying potential threats, responding to changes in the situation, and maintaining stability within their area of responsibility. Service conditions here have their own unique challenges - combining military risks with difficult terrain where every movement requires precision and attention.
Work in the Chernobyl Zone is not the “quiet duty” it may appear to be from the outside. It requires constant readiness for any possible development. Simply put - when everything looks calm, it usually means the job is being done correctly.
In addition to physical presence in the area, technical support plays a major role. Surveillance equipment, unmanned systems, communications, and unit mobility allow large territories to be monitored effectively and threats to be addressed quickly.
The ATEY Battalion works in coordination with other defense units, ensuring a comprehensive approach to security in the northern direction. This is daily systematic work that often remains unseen, yet plays a critical role in the country’s overall defense capability.
At the same time, the battalion continues to carry out combat missions in eastern Ukraine, combining operations across multiple directions. This format demands a high level of training, flexibility, and the ability to adapt rapidly to changing conditions.
The ATEY Battalion is a unit that simultaneously protects strategic facilities and participates in combat operations, carrying out missions where they are needed most.
Support for the unit directly impacts the effectiveness of these missions.
Transport, drones, communication systems, and power support help improve territorial control and ensure the safety of personnel.
