In November 2025, Major Yevhen Bezsmertnyi was appointed commander of the battalion after previously leading the Atey special unit. Under his leadership, the battalion underwent a major internal transformation and formed a new identity. This was not simply a name change - it was a change in mindset, character, and internal code.
“Atey” is a battalion forged by war. The unit brings together people with real combat experience, strong motivation, and personal reasons to fight. Fighters of the Atey Battalion have operated in some of the most difficult sectors of eastern Ukraine.
Since its creation, the battalion has carried out combat missions continuously, combining service on Ukraine’s northern border with active combat operations in the east of the country. Its primary mission in the north is countering sabotage and airborne threats, protecting critical areas, and ensuring the security of border regions. At the same time, from the very first months of its existence, the battalion has been engaged in combat on the eastern front in some of the most intense combat zones.
